Water Filtration

Membrane Filtration Systems

In water treatment membrane filtration is the technique with the lowest operation costs used to remove particles and salts in the water. For this area, ProMinent offers multiple and high quality systems. These being completed by the large range of ProMinent products for a customer-specific complete solution, i.e. complete the water treatment process solution from one source.

Membrane filtration is a physical procedure for particle separation by means of semi-permeable membranes. There are 4 types of technologies, depending on the size of the particles/molecules, that are to be removed:

  • micro filtration
  • ultra filtration
  • Nan filtration
  • reverse osmosis

Micro filtration Ultra filtration Nan filtration Reverse Osmosis
Size of Particle > 0.1 um
> 500,000 Da
0.1 - 0.01 um
1,000 - 500,000 Da
0.01 - 0.001 um
100 - 1,000 Da
< 0.001 um
< 100 Da
Type of Particle suspended particles, colloidal haze, oil emulsions Macro molecules, bacteria, cells, viruses, proteins Micro molecular organic compounds Ions

From these technologies ProMinent has specialized on plants for Nan-filtration and reverse osmosis. ProMinent specialists with their detailed branch knowledge have not only the capacity to compile the optimal plant for the respective application but also provide complete water treatment solutions from one source consisting of products of the large ProMinent product range.

Reverse Osmosis Water Filters

WATER WATER EVERYWHERE ... BUT GOOD ENOUGH TO DRINK?
  • Without water, we die very quickly.
  • Water makes up more than two thirds of the weight of the human body
  • It makes up 95% of the huma brain.
  • It makes up 82% of human blood.
  • It makes up 90% of the human lungs.
  • A mere 2% drop in our body's water supply can trigger signs of dehydration

Water is critical and the medical profession encourages us to drink plenty. However, many prominent scientists are alarmed by the content of some drinking water. The practice of making water safe to drink actually involves adding large amounts of extremely poisonous chemicals to it. Here is a list of just a few of the chemicals routinely added to our water supply:

Liquefied chlorine
Fluorosilicic acid
Aluminium sulphate
Calcium hydroxide
Sodium silicofluoride

Water Filters - The Obvious Answer

Reverse osmosis (RO) filtration systems are widely acknowledged as the most effective filtration systems available. They are used by the medical profession to produce 'pure water' for dialysis, etc. Unfortunately RO systems usually remain expensive, costing upwards of £500 per system and may vary wildly in quality.

Fortunately this situation has been remedied by Freshly Squeezed Water, a UK company that provides both domestic and commercial water filtration systems.

Dr Robert Verkerk has this to say about Freshly Squeezed Water RO System:

"There is no doubt that dehydration and mineral deficiency are at the core of most ill-health suffered in western countries. Freshly Squeezed Water in my opinion is the first company in the world to have come up with a financial and marketing package that allows everyone to drink and cook in RO water."

Options, Options and More Options

The good news is Freshly Squeezed Water have a variety of options available to suit every pocket. Whether you want to buy a system outright or whether you prefer the comfort of renting a system, there's an option there to suit you.

Katadyn

Water Filters
The Katadyn water filters are known to be the best made. They have been manufactured in Switzerland for over half a century. Their system is based on micro-filtration through a 0.2 micron micro-porous ceramic filter element. All harmful cocci, bacteria, protozoa, fungi, cysts and parasites are totally removed, including the chemically resistant infectious agents of Giardia, the amoebic and shigella dysenteries, and those causing typhoid, cholera bilharzia and a long list of other dangerous diseases. No chemicals are used in the purification process. The effectiveness of micro-filtration does NOT depend on uncontrollable variables such as temperature and acidity of the water, or on the type and quantity of dissolved or suspended mineral or organic matter. Nor is there any question of how much chemical to use, how long a contact time you need, how long and how vigorously you must stir the water to make it safe, or whether the chemicals have lost potency with time or exposure to heat or moisture.

COMBI Filter - Katadyn technology has created a new dual filter water filtration system.

The Katadyn's proven 0.2 micron ceramic filter has been combined with an activated carbon filter creating a system that eliminates not only bacteria and micro-organisms including Giardia and Cryptosporidium but also malodorous and noxious chemicals, chlorine and iodine. The COMBI Filter is a must piece of equipment for the world traveler and the serious backpacker. If the taste, odor or chemical contamination of the water is not a factor, the life of the carbon can be extended by removing the carbon cartridge from the upper chamber of the filter, prior to water treatment. it can easily be removed and replaced whenever necessary. With a capacity of over 13,000 gallons for the ceramic and 60 gallons of carbon filtration, it is truly remarkable. Size is 2.4" x 10.4", weight 22 ounces, warranty is one year.

The Combi Plus has an add-on kit that includes: a base, hose and spigot to allow connection to a sink faucet for normal indoor-home use.
